Papers, 1948-1984.

Papers of a lighting designer, production manager, and University of Wisconsin theater and drama professor. The collection includes materials from Hemsley's work with the American Ballet Theatre, Bolshoi Ballet, National Ballet of Cuba, Stuttgart Ballet, Wisconsin Ballet Company, Boston Opera Company, Houston Grand Opera, Metropolitan Opera Company, New York City Opera, The Performing Arts Company of the People's Republic of China, and many other performing companies. Theater files are primarily from productions in Madison, Wisconsin, and in numerous regional theaters across the country. Among the special productions are Jimmy Carter's 1976 inaugural ball and an industrial show by Oldsmobile. The processed portion of this collection is summarized above, dates 1948-1980, and is described in the register. Additional accessions date to 1984 and are described below.
